The IKEA Foundation’s mission is to create substantial and lasting change by funding holistic, long-term programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities that address children’s fundamental needs: home, health, education and a sustainable family income, while helping communities fight and cope with climate change. We believe that strategic grantmaking can help communities transform their own futures. Nothing inspires us more than seeing our partners and the communities they serve using our grants to create remarkable changes.
Shine Campaign Commitment
The IKEA Foundation is committing to support the Shine Campaign. Shine’s coalition of faith, finance and philanthropic partners working with clean energy enterprises, humanitarian relief agencies and impact investors to end energy poverty is the right constellation to significantly impact the 1.1. billion people still living without electricity and the three billion relying on dirty fuels for cooking and heating.
By making it possible for families living in impoverished communities to access clean, reliable and affordable energy, Shine will help them create safer, healthier homes, earn a better income and adapt to climate change.
The IKEA Foundation is supporting Shine with a €1.7 million grant because having access to clean energy can help families break the cycle of poverty and build more a prosperous future for themselves and their children.
In addition, on Earth Day Sunday April 22, we announced six new grants, totaling over €40 million to support our energy access work in parts of Asia and Africa. For the occasion, we have produced a short animated film explaining how access to renewable energy gives families a future.
