On February 21, 2020 Shine’s Emira Woods joined a delegation of Africa policy Advocates in a meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Tibor Nagy. The meeting coincided with the first official visit of Secretary of State Pompeo to Sub-Saharan Africa. Shine used the occasion to remind the Administration that Africa is at the epicenter of the climate crisis, exacerbated by a global addiction to oil, gas and mining. Shine urged the leading duty-bearer for U.S.-Africa policy to redirect development finance toward renewable energy access for last mile communities.
